The way you solve problems, the way you think about other people and their ideas, what you consume and what don’t. Your mindset defines you as a person and is linked directly with how you see the world. As the old saying goes, “When Life Gives You Lemons…” here is where the mindset defines what you will do with the given lemons.
Be flexible in your thinking, if one way doesn’t work, try a different one.
Never give up, even when you “fail”. Failures are only lessons from climbing the mountain of success. Someone who never failed has learned nothing, has no experience, and will not become successful in the end. But what about the people who are successful and have never made mistakes? You will ask yourself. They don’t exist, you just haven’t heard of their mistakes because no one is talking about them, in our world failures are not equal to learning, but they will be soon.
Here are some you might never be heard of
- Albert Einstein struggled and almost dropped out because he performed very poorly during his studies. Later he brought us the theory of relativity, with groundbreaking work done in mathematics and physics, which helped us to reach a higher understanding of how the universe works. For that, he received the Nobel Prize in 1921.
- George Lucas’s first movie “THX 1138” was a complete failure, which made the producing studio lose a lot of money. At that time, he was underrated, his next big project “Star Wars” was rejected by United Artists studios and Universal Studios. He hasn’t given up pitching it to other studios and later 20th Century Fox studios accepted his script. Star Wars was then the best-selling film of all time.
- Rovio studios was a small company on the verge of bankruptcy. Found in 2003 the studio made 51 games which all failed to become a hit. After six years, in the year 2009, Angry birds was published, it became an instant hit, and in 2010 it made 6.5 Mio. Euros in revenue, 2019 Rovio studios made 289 Mio. Euros in revenue.
The point is, that no one likes to talk about failure, because failure is something negative for most people. The major problem is that failure is associated with humiliation, and if you are being humiliated obviously you don’t want that to happen again, that’s why a lot of people quit after they fail the first time. If you measure your failures directly to your competence and worth, you create a downward spiral. But taking them as lessons will change the way you think. Sometimes you have to keep on going, sometimes you have to find the right people or companies to talk to about your ideas, and sometimes you have to go 51 different ways to figure out the right one. Finding the right way will stop when you decide to stop to search for it. And nothing will happen or change when you stop.
Is there a successful or an unsuccessful mindset?
The answer is yes, of course, it doesn’t make you automatically the winner of every contest or challenge, but it boosts your probability of winning, compared to the ones without a successful mindset. A successful mindset means to think differently, take failure as an opportunity to learn, and retry without even thinking of giving up. Some people have this “Participation is everything” but with such a mindset you will never achieve first place in any challenge because your goal was only to participate from the beginning. Also, here it does depend on your goals, but the difference between a successful and unsuccessful mindset is, to never give up until you achieve them.
Do I have a successful mindset?
Test yourself: Do you think negatively or positively about other people, ideas, and the world in common? Do hindrances stop you, or do you grow through them because you fight them? Do you stop when all odds are against you? Does the word impossible mean “I can’t do anything about it” or does it mean “it was until now, but I am going to change it” to you? Most of us won’t be able to answer all of these questions right. That’s not bad. Your mindset profoundly affects the way you lead your life. You have started to think about the successful mindset, now you will learn how to develop it. From here, your journey begins! How to develop and enhance a successful mindset?
